Kataujaq Society Safe Shelter – Women’s Safe Shelter
Note: Services may be affected because of Covid-19. Please contact the service directly before visiting in person.
Service provides:
- an emergency shelter for women and their children fleeing violence in their home, for a maximum stay of 3 weeks
Includes:
- counselling, advocacy, and safety planning as well as country food and clothing
- teaching traditional land skills including hunting and camping
- connecting women and children to Elders and community members
- transportation so women and children can visit relatives within the community
- a liaison between clients and social workers, schools, the nursing station, and other social services in the area
