Aftermetoo is a young, small, and growing national Canadian charity that emerged out of the 2017 global #MeToo movement. This year, we’re launching a project to develop online communities where people who are experiencing gender-based workplace harassment can come together to support and help each other.
We are looking for a marketing lead to support this work.
If you are the successful candidate, we’d be happy to engage you in whatever way best suits you. We can work with your consultancy, hire you as an employee, or engage you as an independent contractor—whichever works best for you.
Position overview
Aftermetoo is seeking an inventive and energetic marketing lead. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successfully marketing internet properties online, ideally including ones that target women and people who are queer, aged 18-34. Your job will be to create and execute a marketing campaign that attracts our target users to the online communities we are developing. The purpose of your job is user growth.
Responsibilities
The main responsibility of this role is to create and execute a strategy that successfully attracts users to Aftermetoo’s new online communities. Here’s the kind of work you’ll do:
- Review and absorb Aftermetoo research documents related to people’s experiences of workplace sexual harassment, and become familiar with their informational and community needs.
- Review Aftermetoo brand materials to thoroughly understand our target users, brand positioning, and value proposition.
- Based on the research documents and brand materials, develop a strategy to attract users to the communities.
- In collaboration with the Aftermetoo team, brainstorm and develop ideas for initiatives that fit with the strategy.
- Collect and/or develop any necessary materials/assets, such as logos, design elements, briefing documents, images, scripts, and/or video recordings, to execute the initiatives.
- Identify and recruit people to help (influencers, ambassadors, champions, etc.).
- Collaborate with those people to ensure successful execution of the initiatives, including any necessary coordination with Aftermetoo team members.
- Learn from each initiative and apply lessons learned to the remainder of the campaign. Be willing to rethink and pivot as we learn, to maximize effectiveness of the campaign overall.
- Track and report on campaign performance.
Skills and qualifications
- Experience with internet-based marketing campaigns involving social media, content marketing, and/or native advertising. Ideally your experience will include one or more of the following elements: sponsored content, product reviews, giveaways and contests, and/or brand ambassadorship.
- Experience with products/services targeting people aged 25-35 who are female and/or queer.
- Hands-on experience managing social media platforms and campaigns.
- Solid understanding of influencer marketing principles and practices.
- Familiarity with marketing on platforms such as Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitch, etc.
- Strong creative skills including the ability to generate ideas with big impact for not much money.
- Excellent communication skills.
Personal qualities and characteristics
- You’re inventive and generative: you’re always coming up with new ideas and ways to engage people.
- You’re persuasive and a good negotiator.
- You’re persistent. You’ve got grit and determination.
- You’re empathetic and you want to help people.
- You’re flexible. You like seeking feedback and adapting and changing direction based on what you learn.
Pay and work hours
- We have $125,000 budgeted for this position for a period of 18 months.
- We do not offer conventional benefits (e.g., dental, vision care).
- You’ll be expected to provide your own devices (laptop, phone).
- Work hours and work conditions are fairly flexible.
Commitment to equity
At Aftermetoo, we know that diverse groups make better decisions and produce higher-quality work. We are actively seeking to build a diverse team for this project along multiple axes, including but not limited to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race and ethnicity, and socioeconomic background.
We encourage applications from people who will bring unique perspectives and experiences to our team. If you are passionate about our mission but don’t currently meet every qualification listed, we encourage you to apply anyway. Your unique skills and experiences could be exactly what we’re seeking.
How to apply
Please send materials to [email protected], with Marketing Lead in the subject line. If you’d like to be engaged as an employee, please send us a resume and cover letter. If you’d like us to hire your consultancy, please send us a proposal. This position will be open until filled, which we hope will happen by the end of July.
