Getting Started

This page explains how to start using your benefits — what kinds of professional support are available, how to connect with providers, and how to request coverage for other related expenses.

The process is simple and fast. Most people begin receiving services within a few days.


Accessing Professional Support

To begin, call the program line at 1-800-999-9999.

You’ll speak with a qualified counsellor who will ask what kind of professional support you’d like — counselling, legal advice, or career coaching.

Depending on your preference, you can:

  • be matched with a qualified provider in our network, or
  • ask us to cover the cost of a counsellor, lawyer, or coach you already work with or would like to see.

After your call, we’ll contact you and your provider directly to confirm next steps.

You’ll be asked to sign one short form. Any additional paperwork is handled between us and your provider.


Types of Support

The program covers three kinds of professional services — all at no cost to you:

  • Counselling – Work with a registered counsellor to address what happened and manage its effects on your wellbeing.
  • Legal advice – Speak with an employment lawyer in your province or territory who can explain your options and next steps. It’s real legal advice, not just general information.
  • Career coaching – Work with a professional coach to plan your next steps, navigate job changes, and think strategically about your future.

You can use one, two, or all three services — in whatever order makes sense for you.

Each service is covered up to a set limit, at no cost to you.


Other Recovery-Related Costs

In addition to counselling, legal advice, and career coaching, the program can pay for other reasonable expenses related to your situation — up to a total of $3,000.

Examples include:

  • Transportation to appointments or interviews
  • A wellness or meditation app subscription
  • Course or training fees for new career opportunities
  • Temporary housecleaning or home support
  • Noise-cancelling headphones or other tools that help you focus

You don’t need to pay out of pocket first. We can send approved funds in advance.

To request coverage, call in and speak with one of our counsellors and they will send you the Coverage Request Form.

Minimum request amount: $200 CAD.

Payment and Timelines

We pay legal and mental health providers directly. You never have to pay upfront or wait for reimbursement.

For other approved costs, you can be reimbursed or receive funds in advance: it’s your choice. 

Most people have their first appointment within a few days of calling us. If anything takes longer, we’ll confirm the timing directly with you.


Next Steps

Once we’ve found a provider for you, we’ll send you their contact information and you can set up a time to see them. 

If you’ve requested additional coverage, we’ll confirm payment details once your request is processed.
